The Kovács Gábor Art Foundation performs a pleasant duty when it opens the Tibor Csernus Memorial Studio before the public. The interior evokes the atmosphere of the artist’s atelier in the Bateau-Lavoir, Paris, with original furniture, objects and tools, presented to the Foundation by the artist’s inheritor. There are such personal relics here as Tibor Csernus’s favourite aeroplane models, his easel, and the chair he used in the last years when painting. Not only do they allow a view into the artist’s most intimate surroundings, but also reveal the material background of a supreme oeuvre.
